After Real Madrid signed Takefusa Kubo earlier this summer, it seems rivals Barcelona are keen to bring a Japanese player of their own to LaLiga.

According to reports in Japan, the Blaugrana are interested in signing Kashima Antlers striker Hiroki Abe.

In 2018 he was named Japan’s Young Player of the Year and made his senior international debut at this summer’s Copa América.

Barça are reportedly hoping to bring him over and deploy him in the B team to begin with to see how he copes with a season in the Spanish third tier.

Madrid have similar plans for Abe’s compatriot Kubo, who Catalan outlet Sport claim Barcelona actually turned down the chance to sign before his move to the Bernabeu.
