Franck Kessie is a man in demand in the transfer market. The AC Milan superstar is in the final six months of his contract and looks primed to leave the club on a Bosman move at the end of the season. Several top clubs across Europe are lining up to get their hands on the Ivory Coast international.

And, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona could also be in the running to capture the 25-year-old, as the Blaugrana have been offered a chance to sign him on a free transfer.

Barça have a packed midfield unit as things stand with Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets, Gavi and Nico Gonzalez at Xavi’s disposal, while Riqui Puig also remains an option.

However, question marks continue to linger over the future of de Jong, who has endured a difficult 2021/22 campaign so far. Furthermore, with Busquets not getting any younger, there will be a need for another midfielder in the squad.

Kessie, to that end, could be an option worth considering. The Ivorian would add a different flavour to the Blaugrana’s midfield unit with his ball-winning and ball-carrying capabilities, along with his robust physicality.

The former Atalanta ace has also added goals to his game over the past eighteen months, which would only stand to help Barcelona should they get their hands on the midfielder.

However, there have been reports of interest from arch-rivals Real Madrid as well, which could complicate matters for the Blaugrana.

As things stand, Los Blancos would be in a position to hand Kessie a better and more lucrative contract than Barça due to the latter’s poor financial health. It could lead to the AC Milan midfield mainstay preferring a move to the Santiago Bernabeu over Camp Nou.

So, even with Barcelona being offered a chance to sign him up, it remains to be seen if they can successfully lure him to the club at the end of the season.
