Ousmane Dembele’s renewal with Barcelona seemed to be a done deal after Xavi mentioned him as a key part of his project. However, unlike the expected response of boosting renewal talks after the revelation, Dembele’s environment have reacted on the contrary.

With every passing day, the Frenchman’s renewal with the club seems less likely. Dembele has offers from the Premier League promising high wages that Barcelona cannot match.

According to reports from SPORT, the winger’s environment have passed a threat to the board regarding his renewal.

Dembele’s agent has made it clear that the player will not look to make any move in January. His reluctance to enter any transactions in the winter window means that Barcelona now face the heat to decide his future.

If the club fail to reach an agreement over a new contract with Dembele in the coming days, he will look to move on a free transfer in June.

The French international’s contract with Barcelona ends in June, and Dembele demands a large salary to continue at Catalonia. He reportedly feels he is a potential Ballon d’Or winner and commands a fee akin to one in his new demands.

However, the reluctance from Barcelona’s end is understandable. Dembele has not able to prove his worth at the club since his arrival because of repeated and sustained injuries.

As it stands, Newcastle and Manchester United are interested in his signing. A move to the Premier League on a free would mean Barcelona make a huge loss from their blockbuster signing from Borrusia Dortmund.
