As we reach the end of the January transfer window, Barcelona are facing a battle against time as they look to land their remaining targets in the market.

One of the top priorities for Barça is Wesley. The club have been trying to sign the young right-back from Flamengo for quite some time to bolster the reserve team ranks. But they have not been able to reach an agreement with the Brazilian outfit as of yet.

According to SPORT, Flamengo are not happy with Barcelona’s offer. The Catalans have reportedly tabled a loan proposal in exchange for a small compensation fee and a non-mandatory option to purchase the player at the end of the season.

Flamengo do not see this as a viable deal and have thus refused to accept the terms. This has led to problems for Barça, who are not in a position to improve the offer due to their financial constraints.

Barça are targeting Wesley as part of the subsidiary squad. But their altercations with the Financial Fair Play rules apply to both first-team and the reserve squad. That means the club must make space in the second squad in order to sign Wesley.

They have been able to part ways with Alvaro Sanz, Alex Valle and Zacarias Ghailan from Rafa Marquez’s reserve team already this month. Furthermore, Emre Demir is also likely to be on his way out, with a move to Fenerbahce on the cards. It could create room for Wesley’s arrival.

However, Flamengo, for their part, are also unwilling to negotiate. The club have sanctioned the sale of Joao Gomes to Wolverhampton Wanders for a fee of almost €19 million. Matheus Franca, another young jewel, could leave for Newcastle United.

If Franca leaves the club, the Brazilian outfit would successfully make the revenue required to sustain the club’s operations. Therefore, they will not be under pressure to sanction the sale of Wesley, thus making the job even more difficult for Barça.
