Barcelona have received a positive update ahead of their midweek derby against Espanyol. According to a report from AS, both Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia will be fit and available, even though they were forced off early during the Clasico win over Real Madrid.

It must be noted that Cubarsi, who started the match despite suffering from a bout of gastroenteritis the night before, was replaced in the 57th minute.

The young defender felt his energy drop during a challenge with Vinicius Jr. and knew it was time to come off. However, as it turns out, this change was already part of Hansi Flick’s game plan.

The coaching staff had agreed that Cubarsi would only play around an hour, considering his condition. Despite not being at 100%, he showed great commitment and helped the team take a big step toward the La Liga title.

Eric Garcia also fit after physically demanding shift

Meanwhile, Garcia also asked to be subbed off in the 75th minute. His early exit, unlike Cubarsi’s, was not pre-planned but came after a demanding spell of work on the right side.

He had been tirelessly running up and down the flank, supporting Lamine Yamal in attack and tracking back to mark Vinicius. The physical toll was visible, and Garcia signalled to the bench that he could not continue.

Thankfully for Barcelona, both players have recovered well and will be ready for Thursday’s clash against Espanyol.

This is a much-needed boost for Hansi Flick, who will be without Jules Kounde due to injury and Inigo Martinez, who is suspended after accumulating too many yellow cards.

With the title almost within reach, having Cubarsi and Garcia available could make all the difference in keeping the momentum going during the final stretch.
