With just a couple of days left before Barcelona begin their 2022/23 La Liga campaign against Rayo Vallecano, player registration issues have cropped up once again for the club like they did last summer.

Barcelona are yet to register any of their five new signings made this summer while the two players who renewed their contracts (Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele) are unregistered as well.

There are serious concerns about whether the club can complete the registration process in time for Barça’s opening game at Camp Nou on Saturday night. Given the situation, the Catalans have once again turned to their captains to try and reduce/defer their wages like it was done last summer.

Now, according to ARA, another of Barcelona’s captains, Jordi Alba, has come forward to help the club out in their difficult situation. As per the report, the veteran left-back is open to readjusting his contract and agreeing to deferred payment of his salary to ease the registration of new players.

The 33-year-old had reduced his salary last summer and accepted a deferral last summer as well, albeit the pay cut was not a huge one in his case.

And Alba is once again willing to defer his salary for the upcoming season so as to help Barça out of their current predicament. However, while the club officials see the defender’s gesture with ‘good eyes’, they have not asked him to defer his salary at this point.

The Catalans do not wish to burden themselves with large deferred salary payments in the near future and are hence only negotiating with Busquets about such a move. So, Alba has not been approached about the matter at the moment, although if the need arises, the left-back is seemingly open to helping the club.
