In a recent report from SPORT, journalist Toni Juanmarti shared some tough news for Barcelona: key defender Ronald Araujo could be sidelined for nearly two months due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Copa America quarter-final against Brazil.

It must be noted that the Uruguayan international felt a sharp pain in the back of his left thigh just 30 minutes into the match.

As he lay on the ground with his hands over his face, it was clear that this was not a minor issue. Araujo was visibly emotional as he left the pitch, even shedding tears.

Early indications are troubling

The initial scans of his injury, although not entirely conclusive, don’t offer much hope. The medical team is awaiting further tests to determine the exact severity, but early indications suggest Araujo could be out for at least six weeks.

If this timeline holds, he will miss the start of Barcelona’s new season, potentially sitting out the first two or three games.

Furthermore, there is even a possibility that his return might only come after the international break in early September.

Troubling time for Barcelona

This situation adds to the growing list of problems for Barça. Even before the pre-season has begun, manager Hansi Flick is already dealing with multiple injury concerns.

Pedri is expected to be out for about five weeks, while Frenkie de Jong is still not fully recovered from an ankle injury. Now, with Araujo’s injury, the team’s defensive line faces additional strain.

To complicate matters further, Eric Garcia, Chadi Riad, and Fermin Lopez will be absent as they are set to compete in the Olympic Games.

Araujo’s injury could not have come at a worse time for Barcelona. His presence on the field is crucial, and losing him for an extended period is a significant blow.

For now, Uruguay’s medical team will conduct more detailed examinations in the coming hours to confirm the extent of the injury. If their worst fears are confirmed, Araujo will have to embark on a lengthy recovery process.
