According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona may be forced to sell Ronald Araujo next summer if he does not renew his contract before then, as the club is concerned about the possibility of him leaving for free if no agreement is reached.

Araujo’s current contract runs until June 2026, but despite offers being made, he or his representatives have not indicated that they are willing to extend it.

It is said that his agents, Edmundo Kabchi and Edoardo Crnjar, met with Barcelona’s sporting director Deco on February 14 to discuss the situation. However, more than half a year later, no progress has been made.

This has raised concerns within the club, especially since Araujo had stated before the Copa America that his agents would engage with the club on renewal talks.

Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, even stepped in personally in March to discuss the situation with Araujo, presenting the club’s offer directly. Still, the contract remains unsigned, leaving the club in a state of uncertainty.

Trouble for Barcelona?

Araujo is currently recovering from surgery for a hamstring injury he sustained in July, which has kept him out of action until November. Despite his absence, the Uruguayan centre-back is a key figure in the Barcelona dressing room.

The club’s leadership is growing increasingly uneasy, as Araujo’s silence regarding the offers made continues to create confusion.

With the expiry date of his contract looming in 2026, Barcelona must carefully consider their options, including the possibility of selling him in 2025 to avoid losing him for free.

While there have been meetings between Araujo’s agents and the club, including discussions with Deco, no concrete progress has been made. Laporta, informed by former teammate Luis Suarez about the risk of losing Araujo, even intervened personally to push for an agreement.

However, as of now, there has been no movement, leaving Barcelona in a difficult position ahead of next summer.
