At this point in time, Barcelona are within touching distance of returning to the financial 1:1 rule. A few departures or sources of passive income would suffice on that front and the club, thus, are hoping to clarify some exits in the coming days.

Concurrently, however, there is a hope that transfers of some former players will bear some fruit in terms of the percentage that Barcelona retain.

In fact, the club have earned such ‘passive’ income from operations involving Jean-Claire Todibo, Ferran Jutgla, Alex Collado, Ilaix Moriba, and others in recent times and Mika Marmol could now be the latest on that list.

Set for a big move

As relayed by SPORT in a recent report, Marmol is closing in on a transfer to Girona and Barcelona retain 50% of any transfer fee that is paid for the player.

The centre-back signed for the Canary Islands-based team after the 2022-23 season for a fee of €1.9 million and signed a contract until 2026.

Now, however, Michel’s side are reportedly interested in his signing and a fee of close to €5 million to €6 million is rumoured. Barcelona, in such a case, can receive up to €3 million through the operation.

Given Girona’s defensive struggles last season, it is clear why they are pushing for new signings at centre-back and Marmol is a player who has impressed their sporting director Quique Carcel a lot.

Needless to say, Barcelona will see it as a win-win situation and another success story of their plan of inserting such clauses into transfer agreements of their homegrown stars.

After all, they are now in need of revenue to improve their Fair Play situation as they push for Nico Williams’ incorporation.
