Barcelona consider their right-back position to be well-covered – Romano

With there still being time left in the summer transfer window, Barcelona might still remain active in the market. However, it is important to keep in mind their restricted financial capabilities. Yet, no operation is ever completely off the table for Barcelona to look into.

The primary target for the club this summer was reportedly a new left-winger. Initially, the club seemed to be on the right track to bring Nico Williams to Barça, but that deal unfortunately fell apart and Williams decided to renew his contract with Athletic Club.

Still, the club remained persistent and ending up reaching an agreement to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United. While he is arriving on a loan deal, it is an operation that does seem to be favourable for the Catalan club.

Beyond that deal, however, there have been rumours suggesting that the club could consider purchasing a new right-back this summer. However, a recent update from a reliable journalist suggests that La Blaugrana have made no significant move towards making such a signing so far.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona believe their right-back position is well-covered thanks to the two players who primarily play there already. The first is French defender Jules Kounde, who remains untouchable for Hansi Flick, and the other is Eric Garcia.

This update directly counters the reports suggesting that Barcelona would be interested in possibly signing Denzel Dumfries. However, that news already lost a lot of steam when Inter Milan’s Sporting Director denied the existence of an approach for the player.

Both right-backs to have their contracts renewed

Interestingly, Barcelona is reportedly also unwilling to negotiate an exit for Kounde despite rumours suggesting that English Premier League clubs remain interested in him. Similarly, Eric Garcia is a player who Hansi Flick seems to trust a lot, and the Spaniard has proven time and time again that he is more than a reliable right-back for Barcelona to count on.

In fact, Barça is reportedly working on the renewals of both players moving forward. The Frenchman currently has a contract that expires in 2027, whereas Garcia’s runs out in 2026. To ensure their continuity, Barcelona are looking to renew both players.
