Sergino Dest has left Barcelona to join PSV Eindhoven on a permanent transfer.

The USMNT full-back spent last season on loan at PSV and helped them wrestle back the Eredivisie title from Feyenoord.

He has now signed for them on a permanent deal, ending his Barca career after four years with the club.

A statement from Barcelona read: "FC Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Sergino Dest. FC Barcelona retains a percentage of any future sale."

PSV's unveiling read: "Sergino Dest is and always will be PSV. The technically gifted full-back was rented from FC Barcelona last season. Now PSV takes him over permanently from the Catalans. Sergino signed a four-year contract on Saturday afternoon at PSV Campus De Herdgang."

Dest told PSV club channels: "First of all, PSV believes in me and I am greatly appreciated here. I got to know the club as incredibly warm, like I have never experienced anywhere before. Those are important aspects for someone in my situation and give me confidence that I can rehabilitate well here. Once the time comes, it is very nice that the game we play here suits me. I'm really looking forward to getting minutes again, being important and grabbing titles."

Dest announced in May that he had ruptured his ACL and so a permanent transfer was put into doubt. Nevertheless, PSV have chosen to proceed with the deal despite this injury concern.

PSV's director of football, Earnest Stewart, said of Dest's injury: "We have discussed it well internally, but Sergino convinced us so much last season that we absolutely did not want to miss the opportunity to take him over permanently. He has so many qualities. The new situation doesn't change that.

"He played an important role in the 25th national title. When he came over last year, I knew we were bringing in a very good player. He has proven that several times at the highest level. His arrival is a very good start to the transfer summer."
