Barcelona coach ‘proud’ of one key aspect of his team’s performance against Getafe

FC Barcelona maintained their winning run in La Liga with their victory over Getafe last night. It was not a goal-fest as some of the team’s last few games have been, but the Catalans still got the job done with a 1-0 win over the Madrid-based side.

It is easy to understand why the Blaugranes got only a one-goal margin in this game, as Getafe usually play with a low block. Lewandowski was able to score the team’s only goal in the first half, and then once again came close to scoring but the Getafe goalkeeper, David Soria, saved his, and Yamal’s, shots on goal.

But irrespective of how many goals his team got, the Barcelona coach, Hansi Flick, was still happy with his side’s performance. Talking to the press after the match, SPORT highlights that the German head coach disclosed one aspect of the game that really made him proud:

“Many people at the club said that matches against Getafe were always close. We fought for 95 minutes, and that makes me proud. The team played football but also knew how to fight. We had to increase the speed of our passing in the second half; it was necessary to open up spaces.”

There is no doubt that this was a tricky match for FC Barcelona, especially with all the absences in the squad. Important players like Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, Marc Bernal, and Ter Stegen remain out with injuries, while Frenkie de Jong and Gavi are still not ready to return to action yet.

Getting these 1-0 victories in such difficult circumstances will definitely help the team in the latter phases of the season. Hopefully, Barcelona can continue on its winning run, and get an adequate points-margin over their main rivals, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, to ensure a comfortable win in La Liga.
