The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are close to tying a key member of the club’s midfield ranks down to a new contract.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Fermín López as the player in question.
Youngster Fermín is of course now considered an integral member of the first-team setup at Barcelona, when it comes to present and future alike.
The 21-year-old is fresh off a breakout campaign in 2023/24, which saw him rack up a head-turning 11 goals across all competitions.
As much was followed by a thoroughly productive summer, too, Fermín having followed up on Spain’s triumph at Euro 2024 by proving himself the country’s star performer en route to Olympic gold.
His influence in the setup of new head coach Hansi Flick has been limited to date, owing to a pair of fitness concerns.
But as much has not stopped those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou from making clear their commitment to the club’s academy graduate moving forward.
As per a report from MD:
‘FC Barcelona and Fermín López have reached an agreement to extend the Andalusian midfielder’s contract.’
The deal in question, which will likely be signed at some point over the coming weeks, is expected to run all the way through the summer of 2029.
