At a time when Barcelona are pushing hard to sign Spanish goalkeeping prodigy Joan Garcia, the future of Marc-Andre ter Stegen has once again come into focus.

Aged 33, ter Stegen is at an interesting point of his career. After spending years playing in the shadow of Manuel Neuer, the former Gladbach star has finally emerged as a first-choice ‘keeper for Germany.

But on the flip side, his future at Barcelona doesn’t appear as rosy, especially now that the club are targeting a move for a much younger alternative.

Ter Stegen may consider leaving

According to Diario AS, ter Stegen may consider leaving Barcelona if the club cannot guarantee him regular game-time going forward.

His dream is to start for Germany in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. And the only way he is going to achieve that is by getting regular game-time at Barcelona.

But if that is not the case, ter Stegen’s stock may fall further than it already has, potentially paving the way for Germany to consider other goalkeeping options.

Therefore, the former Gladbach starlet may consider leaving Barcelona if the club cannot guarantee him regular minutes.

In principal, though, the German international has no desire to leave Barcelona as he has a contract until 2028.

But his value has fallen significantly and the player does not have any offers other than the soundings of Saudi Arabia.

Barcelona, therefore, have started reconsidering the situation in goal and looking beyond ter Stegen, especially after his recent decline and three surgeries in recent years.

The pursuit of Joan Garcia becomes very important, in this context, though the Catalans may have a difficult time getting their hands on the Spaniard.
