According to a recent report from AS, Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen has given the green light to a summer switch to Galatasaray, a move that signals the beginning of the end of his long-standing spell at Camp Nou.

The Turkish champions are urgently searching for a top-tier goalkeeper, and Ter Stegen has emerged as the most realistic and talked-about option.

Galatasaray see the Barcelona veteran as a signing that could raise their status on the European stage, particularly with hopes of a strong Champions League campaign in the 2025/26 season.

Ter Stegen likely to leave

Barcelona’s recent €25 million signing of Joan Garcia has unsettled the goalkeeping hierarchy, with Ter Stegen now reportedly behind Wojciech Szczesny in the pecking order for the 2025–26 season.

The arrival of another starter-level keeper, on top of the club’s pressing need to slash the wage bill, has cast serious doubt on Ter Stegen’s future.

Now aged 33, the German international is under no illusions about his changing role and is said to be seriously considering Galatasaray’s proposal, which offers him a return to No. 1 status and a leadership role in a team with ambitious European aims.

Galatasaray want a free transfer

Galatasaray, for their part, are hoping the transfer can happen either as a free or under heavily reduced terms.

If not, they are prepared to pursue a loan deal if Barcelona and the player cannot agree on a mutual contract termination.

Interestingly, Ter Stegen also has options in the Bundesliga, which would offer him a return home.

However, Galatasaray are attempting to lure him with the promise of immediate Champions League football and the chance to be the face of a major project.
