Bayern Munich are looking to make life increasingly difficult for FC Barcelona in their pursuit of Robert Lewandowski.

Although the attacker has revealed his intention to reject any contract extension at Bayern, the Bavarians are apprehensive about selling the striker, knowing it could create a massive void in the club’s goalscoring department.

Sport1 journalist Kerry Hau has now offered an update on the situation. The reputed German journalist suggests Bayern are open to selling Lewandowski for a figure of around €40-50 million.

The German Rekordmeister rate the player highly due to his brilliant numbers in the Bundesliga and in the UEFA Champions League over the years.

Bayern even consider Lewandowski the best player in the world. And as such, they are holding out for a hefty price tag despite the player having his contract expire at the end of next season.

There have been reports in the Spanish media this week, revealing Barcelona’s desire to launch a formal bid for the player. The Catalans are also said to be close to reaching an agreement over personal terms, with the player’s agent recently spending time in the city.

However, Bayern Munich may only consider a sale in the event they find a desirable replacement for the Polish international.

The Bavarians have targeted Sasa Kalajdzic as a potential replacement for Lewandowski while Sebastien Haller could be another potential alternative. But they are facing stiff competition from Borussia Dortmund in the pursuit of the two forwards.

Bayern have no intention to accept a bid for Lewandowski until they can bring in a replacement. So it will not be surprising to see this Lewandowski saga drag a bit further, much to the annoyance of Barcelona and the player himself.
