According to a report from AS, it has come to light that Barcelona are set to continue with the two-stage renewal plan for Lamine Yamal that was initially outlined in the summer of 2023.
It must be noted that at the time, Yamal signed a three-year contract, which was the maximum duration allowed by FIFA for a minor.
The plan was clear: once he turned 18, the club would extend his contract until 2030. This approach was agreed upon by both the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, and Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco.
There is no doubt within the club that Yamal will renew his contract when the time comes, and this has been confirmed by Mendes himself.
When Yamal initially signed the contract until 2026, it was under FIFA’s restrictions for minors. However, it was always understood that an extension would follow once the young player reached the age of 18.

The economic terms surrounding the contract extension have changed significantly since the original agreement. Yamal’s performances, especially during the previous season, have seen his value skyrocket.
His achievements, including winning the Golden Boy, the Kopa Award, and being named the best player of the European Championship, have confirmed his place among the top talents in world football.
Barcelona are carefully reviewing the terms of this upcoming contract extension. Jorge Mendes was recently in Barcelona to continue the discussions, which are expected to conclude positively.
Yamal has made it clear, both publicly and privately, that he intends to stay at Barcelona, and Mendes has always respected his client’s wishes, ensuring they are not moved unless they desire it.
There is a mutual understanding between Mendes and Barcelona and the club is committed to creating the ideal conditions for him to thrive, allowing him to focus solely on his performances on the pitch.
Additionally, with the upcoming elections in 2026, the renewal of Yamal’s contract will serve as a key moment for President Joan Laporta.
