Only a few days ago, it was almost certain that there would be almost no changes in the FC Barcelona squad in this winter transfer window. The Catalans were not expected to have a lot of room to register new players, and in this scenario, they were also reluctant to allow any of their current players to leave as well.
However, their return to the 1:1 rule significantly changes the scenario for the Blaugranes. They are still fully focused on ensuring the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, but after that, they will also be looking to make some changes to the team.
In fact, SPORT reports that Barcelona are now open to selling some of their less important players to be able to bring in new reinforcements ahead of the decisive stretch of the season.
For this purpose, the Catalans have already set up several top-level intermediaries who can help them find new destinations for some of their non-starting players.
Players like Ansu Fati, Eric Garcia, and Andreas Christensen are already on the exit ramp, but more players can enter this list as Barcelona continue to assess the money they can bring into their coffers.
One potential entrant to this list could be Frenkie de Jong, as he has shown no signs of agreeing to a renewal. However, the Blaugranes are not too hopeful of earning from his departure in January as he is unlikely to agree to a move away.
Anyway, Deco’s return from his holidays will result in an acceleration of these operations. For now, Barcelona are looking to make new additions on the flanks and the midfield pivot position to help Hansi Flick in this second half of the season.
But despite their return to the 1:1 rule, the Catalans will not bring forward operations that can be more beneficial in the summer, i.e., the incorporation of Jonathan Tah who can arrive at the club for free after the end of the season and thus Barcelona will not look to bring forward his arrival to January by paying a fee to Bayer Leverkusen.
