In a recent report, Sport revealed that Barcelona are in the running to land Watford starlet Yaser Asprilla. It has been stated that the Catalan club does not want to miss the chance to recruit the Colombian whizkid in the summer.

Asprilla’s Impressive Rise In English Football

Asprilla is having a promising campaign in the EFL Championship as he has managed to put in a run of fruitful displays for Watford in the final third. The South American sensation has found the back of the net on six occasions and grabbed five assists in 34 appearances for the Hornets this season in multiple competitions.

The 20-year-old has been a capable presence in the opponent’s half and deserves a ton of credit for averaging 1.4 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the English Championship. He has even tidy with his ball distribution after making 78.2% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

Asprilla is under contract at Vicarage Road until the summer of 2026. Thus, Barcelona would have to make a sizable offer if they are serious about signing the talented youngster.

Barcelona Are In The Running For Asprilla: Is He A Prospect For The Future?

Asprilla can orchestrate some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to cut open the opponent’s defence with some decisive passes in the final third and is an energetic runner with the ball at his feet.

The Colombian sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a right-sided wide player if told to do so. He deserves credit for adding a handful of goals and assists to his game this season.

At 20, the future looks quite promising for Asprilla as long as he continues to improve with each year. He is undeniably a prospect to watch out for in the future, so Barcelona boss Xavi would do well to get him on board later this year.

However, only time will tell whether Asprilla can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if the Catalan club can manage to snap him up at the end of this season.
