FC Barcelona have been in excellent form so far this season and are in the running for a treble in these final weeks of the season, the fate of which would be decided by the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid in the upcoming weekend.

The Catalan club is also in a good position to win the league and is in the semifinals of the Champions League. Should they win all three remaining trophies, it would be a historic season for Barcelona and could set them up for a brilliant future.

Meanwhile, it looks like the club has already started planning for the summer transfer window. Now, as per Fichajes, Barcelona, along with Manchester City and Real Madrid, are interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.

The 24-year-old Italian international was out of professional football for a while with a suspension for betting, but has returned admirably and established himself as one of the most important players in Eddie Howe’s Carabao Cup-winning team.

Tonali has played 40 games across all competitions, scoring 5 goals and providing 3 assists. Man City are looking at him as a potential replacement for the exit-bound Kevin de Bruyne, and Real Madrid are interested in him as a late replacement for Toni Kroos.

Hansi Flick’s midfield is blessed with different profiles, and there isn’t necessarily a requirement for a new addition, but the report mentions that the German coach sees Tonali as a player who can add experience to a very young midfield.

However, that isn’t necessarily true, considering that Tonali is still only 24 and Barcelona already have Frenkie de Jong, who is 27 and much more experienced. Newcastle are said to demand around €80m for his signature, and the Catalan club shouldn’t really be considering it.

The only scenario under which Barcelona should even consider this signing is if Frenkie de Jong was to leave the club, but that doesn’t look like a possibility at the moment. Let’s wait and see how things play out going forward.
