“I’m not used to seeing this type of situation. I see a lot of selfish players and I don’t see a team.

“We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, I see players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart [in].”

Tottenham had just drawn 3-3 with Southampton and coach Antonio Conte had had enough. The Italian tactician publicly blew his top to the press post-game and with that, saw his time in north London go up in smoke.

It’s in that sort of environment that Harry Kane still managed to produce one of his best ever goalscoring campaigns.

A goalscoring campaign in which he netted 30 in the Premier League, all whilst playing in a team that could only manage an eighth place finish. The idea of Tottenham being a one-man team was taken to an extreme with Son Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski failing to find any sort of form in front of goal.

In fact, the England captain — who became his country’s all-time top scorer during the course of the season as well — ended 2022/23 having scored 47% of all Tottenham’s Premier League goals in 2022/23.

That is a truly remarkable statistic and tells you all you need to know about the season Kane has enjoyed and endured.

In fact, the 29-year-old never went more than two goals without a goal in the Premier League and netted in the big games against Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.

The question now, though, is whether Kane stick around for one last dance under new boss Ange Postecoglu?

The former Celtic boss has come into Spurs this summer and is already promising fans an aggressive, front-foot style of play.

Will that be enough to keep Kane at the club, and finally win a trophy in north London?
