Speaking in an interview with So Foot, 35-year-old French striker Bafetimbi Gomis explained his decision to move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal two years ago.

When this transfer was offered to me, I was 33. At a certain agent, the financial aspect becomes important. I always said that a successful career would achieve several things: the football, because that is the priority; family, that they are able to adapt well and that we feel comfortable where we are; and then, finally, the financial side. Al Hilal allowed for all three of those conditions to be met, it is a very big club, contrary to how it is perceived in Europe. We are a bit like PSG in France, the team to beat. They hadn’t won the Asian Champions’ League for 20 years, it was exciting to win this title. Today, we always judge decisions on the long term. Three years later, we can say that my decision was a good one and that I did not come here for a holiday.”
