It was going to have to end one day, but Finn Dahmen's proud run of not conceding in 683 minutes of Bundesliga football moved him into the top six longest such stretches for goalkeepers - as Augsburg maintained their European push with a 1-1 draw at Hoffenheim on Matchday 27.
It took a penalty to put an end to it.
With Dahmen on course for a staggering seventh consecutive clean sheet with Augsburg ahead in Hoffenheim thanks to a Samuel Essende strike, an unfortunate deflection from Chrislain Matsima led to a handball from fellow defender Jeffrey Gouweleeuw - giving Andrej Kramarić the chance to equalise in the 71st minute. A chipped spot-kick brought the unfamiliar sight of the goalkeeping hero retrieving the ball from his net for the first time since a 1-1 draw at St. Pauli on Matchday 20 on 1 February.
Despite being beaten from the spot, Dahmen has plenty of reason to smile, after edging even closer to the likes of Manuel Neuer and Oliver Kahn in the all-time charts thanks to going 683 minutes without letting in a single goal, a run that had included six consecutive shutouts.
"We're delighted because going ten games without defeat is an incredible feat for Augsburg," Dahmen had said after a 1-0 win at home Wolfsburg on Matchday 26. "It's a lot of fun and we're on a really strong run at the minute"

While Dahmen was not able break the all-time record, held by former VfB Stuttgart custodian Timo Hildebrand for a sensational run which bled across the 2002/03 and 2003/04 seasons and spanned 884 minutes, he has every hope of claiming further clean sheets this season with a steely defence in front of him determined to land a European qualifying spot.
