Kicker reports that Augsburg’s interest in Karlsruhe defensive midfielder Tim Breithaupt has now cooled due to the cost of a potential transfer.
Breithaupt would cost in the region of €4m but due to a lack of outgoings at the club, Augsburg can no longer afford the midfielder.
Striker Ricardo Pepi is one of the leading candidates to leave in the summer, with Feyenoord, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven all interested in the 20-year-old. Still, there has yet to be any official offer for Pepi who is currently valued at €9m by transfermarkt.
The departures of Rafal Gikiewicz and André Hahn have already been confirmed but will not provide any benefit to the transfer budget for Augsburg.
Breithaupt’s current contract at Karlsruhe expires in 2024 and he has previously attracted interest from Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 21-year-old has not played since February for Karlsruhe as he has been out with a broken ankle.
