AS Saint-Étienne have made Irvin Cardona’s (27) move to the club permanent, the relegated Ligue 1 side have announced. The Frenchman returned to Saint-Étienne, where he spent the second half of the 2023/2024 season, on loan in January. He had joined Espanyol on loan at the start of last season, however, that loan was cut short by parent club Augsburg in the winter, allowing Cardona to re-join Les Verts.
Like he did one year ago, Cardona will try to help Saint-Etienne return to the first tier on the back of their final-day relegation. Les Verts finished the Ligue 1 campaign second-to-last. Cardona is now tied with AS Saint-Etienne over a contract set to expire in 2028. “After two six-month loans, it’s a source of pride to be able to commit to the long-term with this club. I’m determined to continue to progress and give everything I have to contribute to the project”, said the 27-year-old centre-forward.
