Álvaro Morata and Marcos Llorente were the heroes as Atlético Madrid squeezed past LaLiga 2 side Levante to progress to the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.
Scorers: Morata 54′, Llorente 90+1′.
Diego Simeone named a strong line-up for the trip to the Estadi Ciutat de València but the visitors lumbered through the first half, and were lucky not to fall behind when Álex Muñoz dispatched from a corner but the goal was ruled out as Mohammed Bouldini was judged to have fouled Jan Oblak in the build-up to the goal.
Atlético made the breakthrough early into the second half when some fine work by Ángel Corrrea saw Marcos Llorente break down the right-hand side of the box and his pull-back was dispatched by Álvaro Morata from six yards out.
Bouldini then spurned a great chance to level the scores, heading straight into Oblak’s arms after being picked out with a free header from close range.
The hosts would live to regret that miss as Llorente rounded off the win in stoppage time, sliding home from inside the box after a swift counter attack after being played through on goal by Nahuel Molina.
