For Atlético, Rever scored a header and Hulk scored a penalty. Romércio equalized late in the first half from outside the penalty area, but Felipe Gedoz missed a penalty late in the second half to deny his side an equalizer.

The Minas Gerais team advanced to the next round after winning 4-1 on aggregate.

In the first half at Mineiro, Atlético took complete control of the game, scoring in the 10th minute with Réver and only failing to extend their lead when Vincius’ effort hit the woodwork. They had a variety of scoring options with Keno, Thiago Ennes, and Nacho.

While maintaining the tempo and exchanging passes, waiting for the break, a defensive blunder gifted the ball to Romércio, who took advantage and levelled the score at halfway.

The second half was expected to be busier after Romércio’s late equalizer in the first. However, five minutes into the second period, Rafael Jansen gave away a penalty for holding Réver inside the goal.

Hulk rose to take the penalty kick, putting his team back in lead, 2-1. Galo began to gain confidence after the goal as the game’s tempo intensified.

The energy of the game began to decrease minutes later, and both teams were compelled to make replacements in attempt to influence the game’s outcome. The referee signaled a penalty for the away side after Jair handled the ball with his hand inside the area in the 29th minute, but Everson stopped Felipe’s effort after the striker buried his shot in the left corner.

On Sunday, Atlético-MG will host Sao Paulo in the third round of the Brazilian Championship in Mineiro, while Remo will face Botafogo in Serie B in Rio de Janeiro.
