Jean-Clair Todibo (24) looks set to be one of the most sought-after assets in the upcoming transfer window. It is expected that he will leave OGC Nice at the end of the season and, according to Foot Mercato, Atletico Madrid have made the France international a priority signing.
Addressing his uncertain future at Nice, in a press conference last month, attended by Get French Football News, Todibo said, “I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I don’t want to give false hope. For now, I’m here at Nice. Football moves quickly, you never know what’s going to happen. I’ll wait until the summer to make my decision. If my decision is to stay, I’ll announce it, if it is to leave, I’ll announce it too and I’ll thank everyone, but we’re not there yet. There are important games coming up. The goal is that if it is to be my final season at OGC Nice, then I want to leave here having done something beautiful with the club. The supporters and the club deserve players who give everything on the pitch, and to achieve something substantial. Personally, if I am to leave, I want to leave something good behind.”
Fabrizio Romano understands that Les Aiglons are asking for £40m for Todibo, who is expected to be part of France’s squad for this summer’s Euros in Germany. Many teams will be interested at that price. Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have also shown interest previously, as recently as January.
Atletico Madrid have now made Todibo their number one priority to strengthen their defensive line, with Diego Simeone particularly keen on the Frenchman, according to Foot Mercato. Nice will be hoping that a bidding war ensues this summer.
