During the summer, Atletico Madrid addressed their problems in defence by signing two new centre-backs: Robin Le Normand and Clement Lenglet. Of the two, Lenglet was the lower-key arrival, but he has been making his mark at the Metropolitano over the last couple of months.
Lenglet was initially not counted on by Diego Simeone, but after Le Normand suffered a traumatic brain injury, he was given his chance. It is one that he has not let go, and now, he is a nailed starter.
On Saturday, Lenglet will line up against parent club Barcelona, and ahead of that match, Marca have reported that Atleti bosses are calling for the French defender to be signed from the Catalan side on a permanent basis.
Barcelona would certainly welcome the permanent departure of Lenglet, whom they have been trying to shift for several years. Given that his contract ends in 2026, Atletico Madrid would also be able to acquire his services next summer for a significant reduced price.
