Atlético de Madrid ended a three-game winless streak in all competitions by edging out Real Betis.
Scorers: Silva (OG) 8âČ, Morata 44âČ; Carvalho 62âČ
The hosts took an early lead through HĂ©ctor BellerĂn firing a clearance against GermĂĄn Pezzella which rebounded off Rui Silva from Memphis Depayâs cross to the far post .
Ălvaro Morata sought to break an eight-game scoring drought from the penalty spot but was denied by Silva before seeing his successive follow-up attempts thwarted.
But the Spain striker atoned for his hat-trick of misses by doubling Atletiâs lead shortly before half-time with a rebound header after Rodrigo De Paulâs long-range effort was saved.
William Carvalho provided Betis with a second-half lifeline by firing a sumptuous shot from outside the area into the top righthand corner of Jan Oblakâs net.
Atleti were later indebted to Oblakâs sharp reflexes in the final 10 minutes by pushing Guido RodrĂguezâs deflected drive from a corner onto the post.
Sundayâs 13th LaLiga home win of the season saw Diego Simeoneâs side extend their advantage over Athletic Club in the race for a top-four finish to six points.
