The Athletic’s Deal Sheet is a great resource because it sums up all of the progress in various deals incoming and outgoing.
However if you’re following our articles every day, most of this is old news to you.
Sometimes the most interesting parts of it are the tiny little snippets of new information buried among the miscellania. There’s a great example at the very end of today’s piece. Two players who were aren’t hearing a lot about finally get a mention.
Alfie Gilhrist celebrates.
“Alfie Gilchrist is still hopeful of joining a Championship side, but he may have to wait until the end of the month,” the report reads.
After a good season on loan with Sheffield United, we thought it would be easy for academy product Gilchrist to get a Championship move. However nothing has happened yet. We would imagine that’s because Chelsea are holding out for a high price, and teams in the second tier are more than happy to wait until closer to the deadline to see it come down a little. Hence the prediction that it all may come down to the end of the month.
Another young defender heading out of the club gets a mention:
“Defender Aaron Anselmino is highly rated at Chelsea after integrating into the camp during the second half of last season and will be sent on loan. Teams in Europe have made an enquiry.”
Again, there’s no real rush to move him on so we would imagine it’s just Chelsea’s loan fee demands putting teams off so far.
It’s good to hear he’s highly rated. Anselmino felt like he might fall through the cracks a little after arriving in January but not getting any usage. It’s good to hear he’s impressed in training, and can hopefully continue to do so on loan.
