It was a slow start to the fixture on the field for both sides with nothing of note taking place until Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini was sent off after some choice words to the officials 3o minutes in.

The tie then exploded into life in extraordinary fashion at the end of the second half.

Milan opened the scoring through Rafael Leão who stroked home a fantastic first time effort into the far right corner on the 45 minute mark.

Atalanta struck back almost instantly, going up the other end from kickoff and leveling the scores through Teun Koopmeiners, who finished powerfully into the bottom left corner.

The away side took the lead in the tie for the first time when Koopmeiners slotted home a penalty into the bottom left corner 15 minutes after the restart.

The Koopmeiners brace was enough for the win meaning Atalanta will face Fiorentina in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.
