Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini is surprised by his Coach of the Year nomination ahead of facing Champions League opponents Liverpool at Anfield.
The Italian been shortlisted for the Globesoccer Awards' Coach of the Year.
“If we'd win maybe I could gain some votes," Gasperini told <>Sky Italia.
“Honestly, beating them would be a great satisfaction. I saw Liverpool against Leicester and they are probably living their best moment [of the season]. Doing a good result at Anfield would be very important for our path in the competition and would give us great satisfaction," he continued.
“I am a little bit surprised by the nomination. The last season was an important one for Atalanta, we want to confirm that the nomination is deserved. It's a satisfaction for everyone at Atalanta.
"What we did last season must have been surprising, since it's been going on for months. A small club like ours have managed to impose ourselves on a world level. It is an enormous satisfaction, perhaps we will appreciate it even more in the future.
“A new season has begun and has already entered an important phase. Now we will find continuity without the national teams, with the league and cup games. I must quickly plunge into the present because we cannot live with memories."
