An Ollie Watkins equaliser saw Aston Villa begin their new season preparations with a draw against Walsall.

Danny Johnson put Walsall ahead shortly after the half hour mark but with half-time fast approaching, Unai Emery’s side were handed the perfect chance to level when Jaden Philogene was upended in the area following an incisive run.
From the penalty spot, Watkins made no mistake to equalise and start Villa’s summer with a share of the spoils.
Throughout, Villa youngsters Omari Kellyman, Tommi O’Reilly and Lamare Bogarde all impressed.
Next up for Villa is a trip to the USA where they will face fellow Premier League sides Newcastle, Fulham and Brentford.
