According to Foot Mercato, Lorenz Assignon (24) is still set to leave Stade Rennais this summer despite the fullback impressing his new coach Julien Stéphan during his first few weeks of training after returning from a loan at Burnley FC.
Burnley at the time were keen to trigger their purchase option of €10 million on the defender, but Assignon was far less keen after the English club were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the last campaign.
Assignon and the Rennes hierarchy are both said to want a clean break this summer with the club still hoping to sell the fullback for around €10 million. The player has had no shortage of suitors in this transfer window with Galatasaray linked early with a move while AS Roma have made their interest clear in recent weeks.
Foot Mercato now writes that Aston Villa are also interested in Assignon and are set to enter the race that is beginning to take shape for the wantaway defender.
