Aston Villa might be low on Marcus Thuram‘s list of potential clubs he could join, says transfer insider Dean Jones.
The Borussia Monchengladbach forward has been linked to a host of different teams as his contract runs down, but Jones has suggested that the Villans are not one of the frontrunners for his signature.
According to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Villa manager Unai Emery wanted to sign Thuram when he was at Villarreal and is now determined to bring him to Villa Park.
The above, however, does not look like an easy task, with the same outlet claiming that Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and one unnamed Premier League club from the top five are also keen on the 25-year-old.
Thuram is a free agent at the end of the season, so it is not a surprise that he is attracting a lot of interest.
As per Transfermarkt, the Frenchman has scored 10 goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances this term, helping him to win a place in his country’s squad for the World Cup.
Jones is not too confident about Villa’s chances of landing Thuram.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “You’ve got to consider that Aston Villa might be a little way down the list. We’ll have to wait and see what level of clubs are genuinely going to be in for Thuram.”
This season, Thuram has shown that he can be an excellent forward. As already mentioned, the 6 ft 4 France international has reached double figures for goals.
As per FBref, over the last year, Thuram has also ranked in the 92nd percentile for dribbles completed and the 91st for touches in the penalty area among his positional peers, proving further that he can be quite a threat.
“Compared to what he was doing at Guingamp, his level is very high,” France manager Didier Deschamps was quoted as saying by the Bundesliga‘s official website a couple of years ago.
“He has the ability to break through the lines, to make the difference, to get goals and assists.”
Ultimately, then, if Emery can get Thuram, who is currently valued at around £25m by Transfermarkt, then he could be a terrific addition to Villa’s squad. You just have to wonder if they can actually beat the top sides to his signature.
