In a recent report, Vamos Mi Sevilla claimed that Aston Villa have a clear path to recruit Sevilla defender Marcos Acuna. It has been revealed that the Andalusian outfit are open to cashing in on the Argentine full-back which could open the door for the Villans to sign him next year.

Acuna’s Good Run Of Form In Spanish Football

Acuna is having a decent season at Sevilla after he put in some solid performances on the left side of their defence. The South American sensation has secured one assist in ten matches for the Spanish outfit during this campaign on all fronts.

The 32-year-old has been a good performer on the left wing and deserves credit for averaging 1.7 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.9 clearances and 0.9 key passes per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing 83% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at Sevilla will run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, Aston Villa could potentially sign him on the cheap this January or at the end of this campaign.

Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Go For Acuna?

Acuna is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third. The Argentine defensive ace is primarily a left-back but can also fill in as a left wing-back if needed.

At 32, Acuna has still got a couple of years left in him to play at his best. Thus, the Villans should focus on going all out to secure the services of the experienced full-back.

Acuna has what it takes to rival Lucas Digne for a regular starting spot at Villa Park. Plus, he might help the West Midlands club challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. Hence, it is only logical for Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery to go for him. However, there are some question marks over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in English football.
