Emiliano Martínez has assured Aston Villa fans that he will be back for the start of next season.
The goalkeeper was forced to sit out the final game of the Premier League campaign, as his team-mates took a shock 2-0 lead before succumbing to eventual champions Manchester City.
His absence led to rumours that the 29-year-old would require knee surgery.
However the 29-year-old Argentina international insisted there was no truth to those claims.
“I don’t need anything,” Martínez told a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Finalissima clash with Italy at Wembley.
“I will be back for pre-season. There is a bit of pain, but I’ve had it since I was 17.”
Martínez was a virtual ever-present for the Villans last season, keeping 11 clean sheets and appearing in 36 of their 38 league games.
