Aston Villa have entered the race to sign Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord this summer.

Geertruida is expected to leave the Eredivisie outfit after entering the final 12 months of his contract with the club, with several sides taking an interest in the Netherlands international.

The 24-year-old scored eight goals and provided five assists in the Dutch top-flight for Feyenoord last season, featuring predominantly at right-back. He can, however, also operate in central defence or in midfield.

Geertruida was spotted in attendance during Liverpool’s draw with West Ham last season and has been linked with following former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot to Anfield this summer. Chelsea have also been linked, while RB Leipzig are pushing to sign the player after a failed attempt 12 months ago.

However, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Aston Villa are now involved in the transfer battle. Unai Emery’s squad lacks depth at right-back with Ezri Konsa forced to cover on occasion last season, while Matty Cash has been linked with an exit.

Geertruida’s versatility would be a major asset to Villa as the club prepare to compete in the Champions League in 2024-25. His arrival would continue a busy summer for Emery’s side, who are the largest spenders in European football to date.
