Aston Villa could make a move for Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo later on in the window, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Reports suggest that the 25-year-old could be about to make a switch from the Scottish Premiership to the Premier League, and Jones has hinted that Villa Park could be his landing spot.

What is the latest news involving Aribo?

The Scottish Sun recently claimed that Nottingham Forest are currently leading the race to sign Aribo this summer.

Crystal Palace, Fulham and Villa are also thought to be interested in the Nigerian, so there could be a real transfer tussle for his signature.

Aribo is not a player Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will want to lose, with the Gers star playing 34 times under the Dutchman last season.

However, with one year left on his contract, the Glasgow club have a decision to make.

What has Jones said about Aribo and Villa?

Jones can see Villa making a move for Aribo but not until later on in the transfer window.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “I think Aribo will become an option a bit later in the window from what I’m told.

“I think he had ideas of going somewhere else that have fallen through, and now they’re going to look at further options, and I know that Villa is just one of those that need to be explored. So that might happen but further down the line.”

Will Villa try to sign Aribo?

It would not be a shock given he has worked under Steven Gerrard before, while the Villa manager seems to be a big fan.

Speaking about the Nigeria international last year, Gerrard told BT Sport: “Listen, he’s a great kid. He wants to learn, he wants to grow.

“What I’ve said to Joe is, ‘You are a much better player when you play angry in a nice way. Flex your muscles, you are six foot three, you are a big strong lad, go and put yourself about.’ And when he does, he is a joy to watch.”

All in all, Aribo, who has scored 42 goals in his club career, is a player you would imagine Gerrard would welcome to Villa Park.

There seems to be a lot of interest from other Premier League sides, but given that there is already that connection, it would be a surprise if Aribo turned down a move to the Villans. So if they do decide to go for him in this window, they will surely fancy their chances of landing the ex-Charlton Athletic man.
