According to a report by Foot Mercato, Paris Saint-Germain will face some stiff competition after Aston Villa have entered the race to sign Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida (24).
The flexible defender who is capable of playing multiple positions across the defensive line had been provided a contract offer by PSG in June. However, his transfer had been pushed to the back burner with the club prioritising their pursuit of Matvei Safonov (25), João Neves (19), and Désiré Doué (19).
PSG have been patient in their approach, and as Foot Mercato writes, this has allowed Aston Villa the opportunity to act swiftly to try and secure a replacement for the outgoing Diego Carlos (31). The Premier League side can offer a chance at elite football this season with the club having secured their spot in the Champions League.
Furthermore, the Dutch international is thought to be attracted to the possibility of playing in England’s premier competition.
