Aston Villa are close to signing Dutch goalkeeper Marco Bizot, per the Daily Mirror (July 11, Page 54).

A move for the 34-year-old could signal an exit from Villa Park for Emiliano Martinez.

Martinez has been the first-choice goalkeeper since joining for £20 million in 2020.

He has made over 200 appearances over the last five seasons, but appears to be ready for a new challenge elsewhere.

Martinez has four years left on his current contract, but Villa want to reduce their wage bill and are open to an offer for one of their top earners.

Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with a summer move, while the World Cup winner has also sparked strong interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Villa are attempting to sign a new keeper amid uncertainty over Martinez’s future. Second choice Robin Olsen left the club after his contract expired.

They are now closing in on Bizot, who is reportedly keen to play in the Premier League.

He previously played for Genk and AZ Alkmaar before joining Stade Brestois in 2021.

He was the number one when the French outfit finished ninth in Ligue 1 last term, keeping 12 clean sheets in 41 appearances.

Bizot was awarded man of the match after making five crucial saves in their 1-0 Champions League victory over PSV Eindhoven in December.
