In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler. Romano said,

“I think [Aston Villa can be ambitious in the transfer window]. We have to understand Financial Fair Play – obviously they have to be smart and balance, but for sure they want to do something.

“Something good is always on the International market. For example, the rumours coming in on recent days for Carlos Soler from Paris Saint-Germain are true, for example he is one of the players they are following.”

Soler’s Important Role At Parc Des Princes This Season

Soler is having a decent campaign at the French club as he has been responsible for putting in a run of impressive performances for them in the middle of the park. The 27-year-old has scored one goal and grabbed four assists in 26 appearances for PSG this season across multiple competitions.

The Spanish midfield ace has made a lot of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is averaging 0.6 tackles, 0.5 shots and 0.8 key passes per game in the Ligue 1. He has also been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 87.1% in the French first division (stats via whoscored).

Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Go For Soler?

Soler loves a tackle and can strike the ball well from long range. He can also create some decent plays for his teammates in and around the opponent’s penalty area. The Spaniard is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as an attacking midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if needed. However, he needs to earn more first-team starts if he wants to mature as a footballer.

Soler would undeniably enhance the quality of Aston Villa‘s match-day squad if Unai Emery can find a way to get him on board in the summer transfer window. At 27, he is about to enter his prime which makes him a good option for the Villans to pursue later this year.

Soler is good enough to help the West Midlands club compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. Therefore, Emery should go for a player with his skillset this summer.
