Sebastian Hoeneß has dismissed reports linking him with the vacant Bayern Munich job. The 41-year-old appears to be the latest coach to distance himself of the role after Unai Emery stated his focus was on Aston Villa, while Xabi Alonso signed a contract extension at Bayer Leverkusen.

Speaking after Stuttgart’s defeat at Werder Bremen on Sunday, the former Bayern II coach responded to the speculation linking him with a return to the Rekordmeister.

“You can definitely assume that I will also be the coach of Stuttgart next year,” said Hoeneß (h/t: DAZN/imiasanmia). “If I had the idea of moving, then I certainly wouldn’t have extended my contract.

“I’m here out of conviction because I have the feeling that we can develop something together here. Nothing has changed from my perspective.”

Even after defeat, Stuttgart are on the verge of returning to the Champions League for the first time since the since the 2009/10 campaign. With four games remaining, VfB sit third, six points ahead of fifth, which should also be enough to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

What next for Bayern Munich?

After Thomas Tuchel and Bayern Munich confirmed that they would part ways at the end of the season, the Rekordmeister’s search for a successor hasn’t exactly gone to plan.

Alonso signed an extension with Leverkusen, while Julian Nagelsmann extended his contract at the DFB until 2026 – that’s two of Bayern Munich’s primary candidates.

Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi has been an option, but he doesn’t appear to be a front-runner, nor does Emery. Zinedine Zidane has also been linked with the role, but the latest candidate is Lucien Favre. The Swiss tactician is considered an interim solution for Bayern with 2025 being a better option for coaching options.
