Bayern Munich prospect Gabriel Vidovic set to be sold to Dinamo Zagreb

FC Bayern München attacker Gabriel Vidovic is set to be sold permanently to Dinamo Zagreb. The once highly touted prospect spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at fellow Bundesliga outfit Mainz 05. After failing to gain traction with the Rheinhessen, however, it appears the German record champions are prepared to give up on him.

Vidovic – who has racked up 21 caps for the Croatian U21s – was born in Germany and initially came up through the FC Augsburg ranks. Bayern nevertheless immediately spotted his potential and snatched him up for the FCB campus when he was only 13-years-of age. He received a professional contract in January 2022.

Vidovic made a pair of relief appearances under Julian Nagelsmann during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns. He completed successful loan stints with Vitesse Arnhem and Zagreb during those seasons as well. This season’s loan to Mainz unfortunately led to only one appearance.

Bayern recalled him early in February following Mathys Tel’s January loan out to Tottenham. Despite being the only other natural striker in the squad besides Harry Kane, Vidovic managed only four meaningless “time-killer” late relief appearances.

The Croatian source reporting on the impending sale – 24Sata – claims Bayern will pocket a €1.5m transfer fee for the 21-year-old. No other German sources are corroborating the rumor at this point, but Sport Bild did report on Zagreb’s interest earlier in the week.

It stands to reason that Bayern won’t be giving up on Vidovic completely, either securing a re-sale or buyback clause. It has since been revealed that Bayern secured a buy-back clause on another disappointing prospect (Frans Krätzig) sold this summer.
