The sale of prestigious French outfit Association Sportive de Saint-Étienne could be a matter of time, reports L’Équipe.
At the head of the Kilmer group is Ivan Gazidis, ex owner of Premier Leagu e outfit Arsenal and Serie A side AC Milan, who appears to be the only horse left in the race for the acquisition of the historic, yet deeply financially-troubled French sporting institution.
Current owners Roland Romeyer (78) and Bernard Caizzo (70) have no desire (and in Romeyer’s case, no money) to inject further capital into the club that they initially acquired in 2004, having plugged financial holes in the last few years (Between 15M and 20M€ per season) with increasingly risky loans in countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany, as well as the sale of star academy products such as William Saliba and Wesley Fofana.
If Gazidis and Kilmer are strong favourites to secure the club, Santiago Cucci, Basque Businessman who was briefly interim president of Olympique Lyonnais and had expressed an interest in their Rhone-Alpes rivals as well as fellow Ligue 2 outfit Girondins de Bordeaux, has pulled out of the race due to financial irregularities.
