AS Nancy-Lorraine’s long-awaited return to Ligue 2 has suffered an immediate blow after the club was handed a four-match stadium ban by the FFF’s disciplinary commission. The sanction follows pyrotechnic incidents that occurred during the home match against Aubagne (2-0) on April 18th.

According to L’Équipe, nearly 250 flares and fireworks were ignited at the Stade Marcel-Picot as supporters marked the 15th anniversary of the ultra group Saturday FC. A large-scale display, including a choreographed firework show, was deemed excessive by the French Football Federation’s disciplinary body.

The punishment means Nancy would have to begin their 2025/26 Ligue 2 campaign without fans in the stands for their first four home fixtures.

The decision, described as severe, comes just days after Nancy launched their season ticket campaign, and the club is expected to appeal.

Worse still, this isn’t the only case pending. Nancy has also been sanctioned in first instance for fan disorder during the February 14th match against Sochaux, which saw seat-throwing, further flares, and clashes between supporters. That ruling included a two-match ban, one of which was the activation of a suspended sentence. If all punishments are upheld, Nancy may be forced to play six matches behind closed doors — more than a third of their home games for the season.GFFN | George Boxall
