Mikel Arteta has said he wants to win the Premier League title this season after Arsenal’s exit from the Champions League.

Arsenal are out of Europe after losing 1-0 at Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, as Joshua Kimmich’s second-half header sent the German giants into the competition’s semi-finals.

The Gunners had their chances across two legs with Bayern Munich but were unable to progress, bowing out in the quarter-finals in their first Champions League campaign since 2016/17.

Defeat at the Allianz Arena was a second successive setback for Arsenal, who lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa last weekend to dent their Premier League title hopes.

The north Londoners are two points behind leaders Manchester City in the title race, ahead of what Arteta has called ‘a big, big, big game’ at Wolves on Saturday evening.

Arteta said he will look to raise the morale of his squad in the coming days as the club turn their attention back towards winning a first league title in two decades.

“I wish I had today the right words for the players to make them feel better. What I’m going to do for sure, all the staff, all the coaching staff, is be close to the players,” Arteta said at his post-match press conference.

“I feel so grateful to be their coach and to work with them every single day. And what they need is that we stand right next to them, give them our support, our love, and I will have to pick it up because on Saturday we have a big, big, big game.

“We’re still playing for a Premier League and I would really want it. We have to show now that we are capable of turning this around.”
