Here are the nominees …

3rd – Marc Overmars

Short but sweet is probably the perfect way to describe Marc Overmars and his time at Arsenal.

After initially struggling for consistency, the Dutch international became a hit after terrorising battle-hardened defences with breakneck speed and intelligent movement – plus his ability to finish on both feet.

Overmars lasted just three seasons at Highbury but played a crucial role in the club’s Premier League and FA Cup double in 1997/98.

2nd – Alexis Sánchez

To this day Arsenal fans are trying to figure out Alexis Sánchez, but what remains crystal clear was his quality.

Signed from Barcelona in 2014, Alexis was a world class wide player who could score goals, create goals and get through tireless amounts of running in equal measure.

His relationship with Mesut Özil in particular was a joy to watch before contractual issues took over in north London.

The Chilean made 166 appearances for Arsenal across four seasons, winning two FA Cup titles and two Player of the Season awards.

And the winner is … Robert Pires

Robert Pires was another example of how Arsène Wenger used his inside track to exploit the French market.

Signed from Marseille to replace Marc Overmars, Pires was this glorious wide player/attacking midfielder hybrid who was known for his ability to cut inside and whip strikes towards goal.

He scored over 15 goals in three consecutive seasons, and was even the club’s top scorer when Arsenal famously went the whole 2003/04 campaign unbeaten.

Technically gifted, devastatingly decisive and clinical, the Frenchman left Highbury in 2006 with two Premier League and two FA Cup titles.

Here’s how the team is looking so far …
