Arsenal youth goalkeeper Remy Mitchell has officially confirmed his departure from the club with a message on social media.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that young goalkeeper Remy Mitchell is leaving Arsenal this summer, and the player has now confirmed as much on his Twitter page.

“After 10 years, my time at Arsenal is up,” Mitchell wrote. “I’d also like to thank everyone who has helped me get to the stage I am at now, all the staff and the players who I’ve ever worked and played with by making every moment memorable. Thank you.”

Football.London had reported that Mitchell was in advanced talks to join Swansea City on a free transfer this summer, and Swansea have since confirmed the transfer.

The same outlet had revealed in April that Arsenal weren’t set to offer Mitchell a professional deal at the end of his scholarship contract, and Swansea have taken the opportunity to swoop.

It isn’t the first time Swansea had taken advantage of an expiring contract for an Arsenal youngster. They did the same with Harry Jones not long ago, with Jones going on to play for their u23s and the Wales u19s.

Mitchell will hope to get the same kind of second chance in Swansea. He should have a better pathway there, as Arsenal are stacked in the goalkeeper position at youth level.

Arsenal have arguably held onto too many goalkeepers, with the likes of Karl Hein, Arthur Okonkwo, James Hillson, and Tom Smith already having been in the u23s for a while.

All of them have at least another year on their contracts, with more goalkeepers to join them as u18s age up – including Ovie Ejeheri and Hubert Graczyk.

Mitchell is the first to go, despite making 18 appearances in the u18 Premier League for Arsenal this season. We wish him all the best in Wales.
